Sell Your Home and Stay in It was originally formed by Michael Holt, Managing Director of our sister company, Charterhouse Standard Holdings.
The original Charterhouse Home Reversion product was created as a solution to the particular situation of a customer who urgently needed to sell his home in order to provide a special level of care for his wife. An elderly man himself, he was concerned about what would happen to him if he sold his house in the usual way.
Because the company had years of property expertise, they were able to look at the situation from a different viewpoint from the normal financial services route and offer a tailored solution. News of the solution Charterhouse came up with and our alternative to equity release spread through word of mouth, as other people found that it was right for them too. So, prior to regulation, Sell Your Home and Stay in It was born, created as an independent Home Reversion company specifically designed to handle the increasing number of related enquiries.
The resulting product appealed to younger applicants as well as the traditional equity release age bracket of 60-65 plus, therefore offering options for those approaching retirement as well as those already retired. From there we developed the Home Reversion Plan we now offer, and, following the new regulation, the company is now authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
Our background is firmly rooted in property. As our sister company Charterhouse are property specialists and qualified Chartered Surveyors, we felt it was time to go back to our roots and reflect that in our new name.
Our Managing Director has been in the property business for over twenty five years, so this experience and expertise helps the company to view the products we offer from a property perspective, as well as a financial one. It also makes us very different from many companies in the equity release sector, who are usually the more traditional financial services providers.
In every other way, our service and product remain the same, but by changing our name we wanted to emphasise where we have come from - our property background.
